Dogs can’t cool off like we do. They pant to regulate their body temperature, but high humidity and extreme heat can quickly lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke. And trust us, you don’t want to deal with that emergency on a July afternoon, so here are some easy ways to keep your dog safe in the heat.


💧 Practical Ways to Keep Your Dog Safe in the Heat

1️⃣ Walk Early or Late

Skip the midday heat. Aim for early mornings or evenings when sidewalks are cooler.

2️⃣ Check the Pavemen

tIf it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws. Use grass where possible or invest in booties if needed.

3️⃣ Fresh Water, Always

Bring a portable water bowl on walks or hikes. Encourage your dog to drink often, even if they don’t seem thirsty.

Provide Shade & Rest

If your dog’s outside, make sure they have real shade — a tree, a covered porch — not just a doghouse that can trap heat. A kiddie pool can help some dogs cool off, too.
